Sail and Stay on Mersea Island Summer 2020: our updated plans

The view across the Blackwater during lockdown

So most have had a surprising time of it over the past month or so, save those dedicated few who have raged long and hard against the virus threat.

We salute all those who have kept the lights on, the food flowing, those who have healed the sick and cared for the old and vulnerable.

And now, as the tentative steps are taken back to a semblance of normality we can, perhaps reflect on what was lost during this time and appreciate the real fruits of our society at its best.

The Hammerhead, Mersea Island

The Island has been quiet, just local folk around and the usual bustle of holidaymakers, beachcombers and day trippers has been missed. Many of the local businesses rely on visitors to the Island and we hope they will soon have the confidence to come again.

The 13th of May marked the first day when we could all venture out from our homes for as long as we want and do (whilst socially distanced) more than we can have hoped for just a week or so previously.

Our Sailing Yacht, Katerok

I spent the day cleaning the boat as she was to go back in the water. I sailed her for a bit and as things stand I’m starting boat trips and river cruises again from July 4th 2020.

Katerok, our sailing yacht

Accommodation wise, we are hosting key workers at Bran’s Estate, as needs arise.

We are officially back open from July 4 2020 for sailing, boat trips and river cruises and for holiday accommodation.

Sailing, boat trips and river cruises are initially for groups of family members, but we’re hoping to open up further later in the season as things continue to ease. We observe ‘Stay Alert’ safety measure, distancing where possible and keeping below decks visits to a minimum. All our trips are bookable online from £69 per person.

Being on the water in good airflow, with all the sea level UV, its a good place to be.

The open spaces, the sea air and convivial atmosphere of Mersea Island has drawn visitors for many years past and we look forward to your return. See our other articles for ideas on what to do, where to eat and how to have fun on Mersea Island.
